ECG of the Month
Let’s welcome 2024 with understanding some graphs…
Heart beats at the rate between 60 to 100 every minute. The normal beat starts in the heart in an area called sinus node. Electrocardiogram is one of the easiest way to find out the way the beats are getting generated and are moving in the heart.
We will go through such common ECGs for all to understand.
I’ll try to describe it in as general terms as possible.
Sinus Tachycardia
#1 Sinus Tachycardia – condition where the beat is generated in a normal place (sinus node) but the heart rate is higher than the normal range (i.e. 60-100bpm). Most of these ECGs are due to some stress on the body as a whole. So, rather than treating these rhythms per se, it’s prudent to find out the stressor and manage them. There are some exceptions as usual. That will need an expert opinion.
Cardiac Electrophysiology
Cardiology is the branch of science which deals with various heart related problems – heart attacks, valve problems, reduced pumping capacity of the heart or heart rhythm related problems. These may happen alone or as a result of some other illness. Due to rapid advancements in the field of cardiology, many subspecialties have developed to deal with some of these problems. One such specialty is – cardiac electrophysiology.
