Conduction System of the Heart

The heart has its own electrical connections which are called as the conduction system. The heart has 4 chambers. The electrical impulse which gives rise to the heart beat starts in the right sided upper chamber (right atrium – SA node) and goes to the junction between the upper and lower chamber (AV node). From there, it goes down to the lower chambers and spreads to the whole heart in just a fraction of a second. This electrical system helps the pumping system to work effectively. Any problems in this electrical system, may lead to varying symptoms in the body such as awareness of the heartbeat and fainting which may require urgent attention.
